From one to two digits - We're 10 years old! What started as a re-visit to the passion lost in the sands of time, now celebrates its entry to the two-digit world! Fabrics change. Beads have more variety. With time, come new experiences and new ventures. It's been a journey witnessing these transitions. I feel thankful and grateful to all the wonderful guests who encourage me to be a bead artist and fabric enthusiast. Here's a celebration for all of us - a whole fabric made with patchwork showcasing each valuable skirt/top/wall hanging order. Yes! We do remember each one of you! Fabric patchwork of all the skirt/top/wall hanging orders Now that we are two-digits, here's another celebration - family name door/wall hangings made with the technique from where it all began - bead weaving! The family name is made by making a word from the first letter of each family member name. This, unlike the traditional family name(or last name) is unique to your family, just as you ar

Customer Appreciation - Aishwarya

Image
Its heartbreaking when something we love breaks! But, its a miracle when we gather strength and mend it! Aishwarya's necklace had some beautiful bead elements. The biding factor - thread - gave away. But, what we appreciate is the spirit of getting it re-done! There was an opportunity to replace the damaged beads with new ones and still retain the old charm! And we were happy to be a part of this process. Thank you, Aishwarya for making us a part of this journey! Design Phase Final Output

Customer Appreciation - Divya

Image
Its an experience to peek into the world of artists . What makes it more interesting is, when the skill is passed on from one generation to another. Fresh perspectives expressed in a different form, art remains alive - an invaluable inheritance! Exploring various mediums in her painting skills, Divya, an art teacher, creates a wide range of products - wall hangings, main door name plates, jharokhas, to list a few! Her mom is an award-winning embroidery artist. Her floral embroidery with threads and beads, on bright sarees creates a perfect traditional-modern blend. For a special gift for her mom, Divya chose to go for a custom creation - band of beads name plates . Her creative brief was interesting - A cloth which belongs to her dad needed to be the hero. Inspired by the floral embroidery, a bead flower would fit in the best! So here's a custom creation - especially for Divya's mom! An artists' world -  A bead sunflower in the making with embroidered stem and leaves! The

Critically acclaimed stall at Primus

Image
"Is that block print?" asked a student of my height, pointing at a mom-n-me skirt pair.  Impressed by the inquisitive question, I said, "Yes! You are right! There's another!" An elaborate examination is what followed! Then, was a detailed study of the hem of different skirt fabrics. Impressed by the observation skills, I couldn't resist, but comment, "You are quite a pro in fine arts!" Smiling, they said, "We are students from NIFT!" Speechlessness! Awestruck! Wow! A case study for design students?!! Never imagined such guests at the band of beads stall in Primus!!! Surprises followed... Two teenagers were busy choosing a bead brooch - Elmo or Ninja Turtle?... Another was busy looking at the noiseless wind chimes on ceiling of the stall... "That is science in the air!", I said. A smile on his face! He travelled with me as we browsed through the concept of each wind chime. After explaining a couple of them, he could relate to the

Adorable design. Right from choosing the fabric to the design colours - Saraswati hand-picks the band of beads products with the most "awww...." :) And that's what we like about her. And yes, the look is made complete with a character bead brooch! Thank you for trusting in us, Saraswati. It was great to have you back!

The Uber stall experience!

Image
"Yet another year of ideas coming to reality!", I thought as I set up the band of beads stall for Uber Verdant Ganesh Utsav.  This year, there was a new addition - themed bead hangings - call it noiseless wind-chimes with a visual splendor! There was a great thrill in setting them up on a stand! The effect was visible in the eyes of kids coming to the stall! It was a small wonderland for sure! We got a glimpse of one more wonderland - from our new customers! One of them did a  mix-and-match of a  green zigzag tussar silk skirt with a plain yellow cotton-silk top. The skirt came with earrings to match the skirt pattern. But, something was missing! On the stall display, with the yellow top had a hand-made "birdie" themed necklace - an absolute show-stopper! The necklace grabbed her attention and WOW! That was a stunning outfit she designed for herself! Quite a visual splendor! Your encouragement towards our efforts to creative sustainability is what left me speech-le
